I already entered my projects in 4-H Online when I enrolled…now what?
Even though you entered projects in 4-H Online, that’s not actually signing up for the fair. Think of that as indicating to us what you are interested in this 4-H year…it doesn’t mean you are entering that specific exhibit(s) into the fair. Entering your exhibits needs to be completed in FairEntry website once registration opens in mid May.
I don’t know which animals I will show at the fair?
First, make sure you have an animal now vs. waiting right before the deadline. Have it now or lease if you don’t! We encourage you to ID all the animals now before the May 15th deadline, and then later decide which specific ones you will bring. If you are curious on the requirements and information for ID’ing your animal in 4-H Online – check out this page for help: Animal ID
Did you know 4-H encourages youth to lease animals if they don't own one?
The lease arrangement is between the 4-H member/family and the animal owner. The 4-H member/family is responsible for identifying the animal owner from whom they would like to lease the animal and making arrangements for use of the animal as a 4-H project. The 4-H family and animal owner may choose to enter a formal (written lease) agreement or a less formal (verbal) agreement. Minnesota 4-H recommends a lease agreement be completed by the family and kept as a personal record for the 4-H project; a sample written lease is provided for 4-H families to use, if desired. If you are curious on the requirements and information for ID’ing your animal in 4-H Online – check out this page for help: Lease Program
How do I know if I qualify for the Minnesota State Fair?
In order to qualify for the Minnesota State Fair, youth must be at least in 6th grade and above. During the County Fair, we will have a State Fair Lineup posted in the 4-H Exhibit Building. If your youth is eligible based on the judge's decision, they can choose whether or not they would like to go and will need to attend a state fair mandatory meeting and complete registration paperwork before the end of the County Fair.
What is the Sherburne Showcase?
The Sherburne Showcase is scheduled for June 30th, 2020 and is a chance for our 4-Hers interested in Performing Arts, Public Presentations, Fashion Revue, and Share – The Fun category to present their exhibits in a more intimate setting than the County Fair! Admissions is free and we encourage the 4-Hers performing to also be part of the audience to help cheer one another on.
You mentioned, Share-The-Fun, what is that?
Share-the-Fun is where clubs perform skits (short story, show or music) that help promote 4-H. The purpose of Share-the-Fun includes; building club rapport and unity, promoting 4-H, and providing recognition for the club. You can choose the theme and should focus on fun and entertainment! There is a time limit of at least 2 minutes and maximum of 6 so feel free to get those creative juices flowing now to come up with ideas!
What are the judges looking for at the County Fair?
There is a 4-H Project Evaluation Sheet available online to see how youth are evaluated on their learning and project. For example, if you are interested in Clothing & Textiles Project for the fair the evaluation sheets are listed under “Fair Judging.”
