I was born and raised in Monterey Park, California before moving to Long Island, New York to help take care of my grandparents. Growing up in the heart of Asian America to a predominantly white suburb was a move that unsettled my understanding of what I perceived as "normal." These unsettled feelings is what eventually led me to my focus on the experiences of Asian Americans in my research.
