Sustainable & Green Chemistry Committee (SGC)

Mission Statement

The Sustainable & Green Chemistry Committee (SGC committee) strives to develop, promote, and foster a departmental culture of green and sustainable chemistry through integration into teaching, research, and community engagement. These initiatives will equip our students and researchers with the skills and mindset to be stewards in protecting the planet and to model the essential role of chemistry for a sustainable future. 

The SGC committee is a part of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Minnesota.

Focus Areas

Undergraduate & Graduate Course Curriculum 

Provide resources and motivation for incorporating sustainable and green chemistry in classrooms

Safety At All Levels

Illustrate the safety benefits of green chemistry inspired substitutions and eliminations 

Sustainable Research Labs

Aid research groups in efforts to make their labs more sustainable and environmentally-friendly

Outreach Education

Share resources and greener experiments and demos for outreach programs like the ACS Student Chapter

Health & Environmental Equity

Illustrate green and sustainable chemistry contributions towards DEI efforts

Connect to University of Minnesota Initiatives

Assure chemistry is represented as a positive force for the environment & sustainability at our university
