PhD students are eligible to enroll in the Graduate Assistant Health Care Plan (most fees are covered by Carlson).
During new student orientation, you will have the chance to sign up for the GA healthcare plan but please visit the GA benefits website if you want to know more about this benefit.
To receive healthcare coverage, students must apply for it during the first semester of their assistantship and by the enrollment deadline. This deadline will be 14 days after your appointment start date, so if your start date is January 2, your enrollment deadline will be January 16.
Once enrolled, a student remains a plan member until coverage is canceled. Find more Enrollment details.
If you have any specific questions about the enrollment process, please contact the Office of Student Health Benefits.
You will be asked when you go into MyU later in the year if you want to waive the student healthcare plan - you can waive that plan as you will be on the graduate assistant plan.
*Do not accept the student health care benefit that is offered at the university, graduate students have a different policy.
