Land Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge that we are meeting on the Indigenous lands of Turtle Island, the ancestral name for what now is called North America. Mni Sota Makoce (Minnesota) is the homeland of the Dakota people. The Dakota have lived here for many thousands of years. Anishinaabe people reside here, too, and reached their current homelands after following the megis shell to the food that grows on water (manoomin, or wild rice). Indigenous people from other Native nations also reside in Minnesota and have made innumerable contributions to our region. (Wording taken from nativegov.org )

Since some of our classes are online, you may be contributing from other tribal lands. For a map that may help you in identifying the indigenous peoples of the land on which you study, check out https://native-land.ca/.
