Working with Schools
Documents
Are you proposing a program to a school?
Use this program description for schools to share information on the program and what science standards are addressed
Have you already booked a program?
Use these sample confirmation email templates to confirm logistics with teachers before you virtually "visit" their classrooms
Zoom Participant Expectations - This document is included in the email templates above, and can be shared with teachers before virtual programs to outline basic participant expectations for participating in a live virtual session
Consider the following when proposing a program to schools:
Teachers need to justify how classroom time is spent to multiple stakeholders: administrators, teaching team, parents, etc. Any marketing/outreach needs to answer:
How much time and resources will the experience require?
What will the teacher/students/school/community/world get from the experience?
What learning standards are addressed?
Teachers often look for things that match their own interests.
Good initial contacts to reach out to at the school could include garden and nature enthusiasts, schoolyard garden supporters, science teacher leads, etc.
Teachers work in grade level teams.
If one teacher in the grade level participates, they’ll likely all want to (or may even need to) participate. Understand that in order for the experience to be viable, you may need to present to multiple second grade classrooms in one day or over the course of a week.
