FAQs

How do I report something to the Integrity Council?

You can make a report of a possible violation of the Honor Code by contacting any of the Integrity Council members or by using the online reporting form.

Should I report the incident to an Integrity Council member or to the Professor?

You should report the incident to the Integrity Council. You can do this by contacting any of the Integrity Council members or by using the online reporting form. The Integrity Council will handled the case according to its procedures and keep your identity confidential. Please do not report a potential allegation to a professor in order to maintain confidentiality of the process.

How do I know if you've held an Integrity Council Hearing?

Integrity Council hearings and case resolutions remain confidential. We do release statistics about the number of trials and reports that occur at the end of each academic year. This information does not include any identifying information of the persons involved in the case.

When will I hear back about my case?

You will be kept informed on the progress of the investigation and hearing (if needed) by the case liaison. We strive to process cases as quickly as we are able, while understanding that the Integrity Council members are also full-time students.

I think I saw a System of Integrity violation, but I'm not sure. Should I report it?

Yes! Part of the System of Integrity states that we have a two-fold responsibility, which means you're not only obligated to follow the Integrity Code, but you're also obligated to report possible violations. If no violation actually occurred the case will be dismissed after the Integrity Council investigates.

"Oh, you're on the Integrity Council. You must know if ____ is ok?" or "Is ____ against the System of Integrity?"

The Integrity Council is made up of students, as well as faculty and staff, just like yourself! Our members can help you review the Integrity Code to determine whether or not an incident represents a potential violation. Note that some circumstances depend on instructions provided to students within a course (eg. types of notes allowed during an exam, peer consultation during assignments, procedure to take attendance). If you have questions about what is specifically allowed within a course, please consult your course syllabus and/or reach out to the professor or TAs of the class.

I didn't (and still don't) know if this quiz is open-note or not. I assumed it was when I took it, but I'm not sure anymore. Did I violate the System of Integrity?

If the quiz was not open-note and you used your notes, then yes. Violating the System of Integrity is not dependent on whether or not you did it intentionally. However, whenever you are not sure the best thing to do is ask! You can contact the professor of the course or the TAs if you need clarification about whether an assignment is open- or closed-note, whether it is ok to collaborate with your classmates or if it is an individual assignment, or any other questions you may have.

If you realize you violated the Integrity System after the fact, you should report yourself using the form.
