A PHI-compliant version of Smartsheet is now available for Health Science users.
Why can't I purchase a standard Smartsheet license?
Because we are in the Health Care Component, we often times can't utilize free or standard versions of tools as they typically integrate with other data stores like Google Suite, which capitalizes on user data and Facebook-type data monetization models. In order to utilize the required functionality, we may have to purchase an enterprise level version of a product to get the necessary controls, BAA, or support level necessary for HIPAA.
How much does it cost?
The cost under the HIPAA-compliant Smartsheet plan is $635 per license per year (as of April, 2025).
Do all of my end-users need a license?
Few, if any, of the users that you will be collaborating with will need licenses. Review the vendor’s description of the various user types and look at the "free user" section to determine which of your users will need a license.
UMN users who are shared content will be prompted to login to Smartsheet to access the content. If they do not have an HST Smartsheet Account, submit the Request Form (Need a license? on the left sidebar), and provide their information.

How do I get a license?
For anyone ready to start working in Smartsheet, submit the Request Form (Need a license? on the left sidebar), and provide your information including chart-string.
How do I login to Smartsheet once I have been provided with a license?
Click "Accept" in the automated email invitation that was sent to you from Smartsheet.
Maneuver to smartsheet.ahc.umn.edu and enter your UMN credentials to login
