On February 12, 2026, “border czar” Tom Homan, announced the official end of Operation Metrosurge. This did not, however, mark the end of policies and practices which criminalize immigration nor did it ensure the safety of vulnerable neighbors. Our communities are still threatened by the violence of immigration enforcement officers and the local law enforcement with which they partner. Our communities still grieve the loss of those killed in detention centers and on the streets, still reckon with the absences of those who were deported by ICE and CBP.
