I am a sociologist and demographer with interests in understanding how climate change and dam building impact population health and well-being. My research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to explore how climate change impacts food security and child nutrition, the ways that dam building reshapes the lives of local populations, and the social and environmental drivers of migration. 

This work is international in scope, with a particular focus on Brazil and East Africa. My research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation and has been published in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Environmental Research Letters, World Development, Social Science & Medicine, and Food Policy.

I received a PhD in Sociology from Brown University and am currently an Associate Professor of Global and Social Policy in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a faculty affiliate of the Minnesota Population Center and Department of Sociology.
