I am a sociologist and demographer with interests in understanding how climate change and dam building impact the health and well-being of marginalized populations. My research uses quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate linkages between climate change and food security, child health, and education; to study the social impacts of dam construction; and to explore the relationship between environmental stressors and migration. 

This work is international in scope, with a particular focus on Brazil and East Africa. My research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation and has been published in journals including Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Environmental Research Letters, World Development, Social Science & Medicine, and Food Policy.

I received a PhD in Sociology from Brown University and am currently an Assistant Professor of Global and Social Policy in the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a faculty affiliate of the Minnesota Population Center.
