Students have the option of pursuing a supporting program or a minor.
Both options are intended to broaden the student's understanding of economics and equip him or her with special skills and knowledge.
The supporting program consists of 12 credits in economics, mathematics, statistics or other related courses and is approved by the Director of Graduate Studies prior to the preliminary oral exam.
Minors are offered by other academic departments at the University of Minnesota and have formal requirements.
Minors are subject to approval by the Director of Graduate Studies of the offering department.
A minor also appears on student transcripts, while the supporting program does not.
