Minnesota is called the Land of 10,000 Lakes and you will found out why as your flight descends. Saint Paul is the capital of Minnesota, however you will commonly hear the Twin Cities being used to refer to Minneapolis-Saint Paul.
Minnesotans are nice, have you heard of the phrase "Minnesota Nice"?
The Twin Cities are well equipped with a good public transit system, famous stadiums and are home to multiple professional sports teams including the Timberwolves & Lynx (both basketball), the Vikings (American football), the Twins (baseball), and the Minnesota United FC (soccer) as well as a full complement of University of Minnesota Gopher athletic teams.
Minnesota State Fair is a major attraction that is held during the last week of August and first week of September. It is a 12 day fair that is also known as the “Great Minnesota Get-Together".
If you are into performing arts, the Twin Cities often host orchestra, choir, dance troupes and theatrical troupes. Catch them at Guthrie Theater, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and more!
Safety: Crime dashboard for Minneapolis. Take general precautions that apply anywhere else. Avoid dimly lit streets, especially late in the night. If you have to walk late at night, avoid walking alone. One can also utilize the 624-WALK service. If the semester is underway, you can use Gopher Chauffeur service as well. Remember that these services have a boundary within which they operate, so check them first.
Weather: Here is a link to the Weather record. If you are concerned about the winter, then you should know that our campus is well equipped to deal with winters every year. The roads and public transport still function and snow is cleared regularly. In case of severe storms, a warning is issued and classes are offered online or other arrangements are made to avoid coming in person during harsh weather. ECE department is situated at Keller Hall, right next to the East Bank metro station. The East Bank Metro station is serviced by the Green Line. The RecWell is within walking distance as well!
