Join the University of Minnesota’s Under the Hood Summer Program.
Our daily schedule is modeled after a professional tech environment, blending collaborative learning with high-intensity "sprints" and industry networking. While the curriculum changes each week, the professional flow remains the same—culminating in our high-energy Friday finale.
8:30 AM | Fuel Up & Connect: Start your day at Keller Hall with a continental breakfast. This is the perfect time to chat with instructors about yesterday’s code or get to know your fellow campers.
9:00 AM | Morning Session: We dive into interactive lectures. You won't just be watching—you’ll be live-coding alongside experts, breaking down complex algorithms into manageable Python scripts.
12:00 PM | The Social Hour: We take a short walk to the historic Tate Hall for a catered lunch. It’s a great chance to step away from the screens, stretch your legs, and enjoy the UMN campus atmosphere.
1:00 PM | The "Lab" Sprints: Head back to Keller Hall for hands-on project building. This is where the magic happens. You’ll work with real-world datasets—from medical records to gaming stats—to build your own ML models.
3:00 PM | Industry Insights: We wrap up the day with Professional Guest Speakers. Hear from data scientists, AI researchers, and tech leaders about how the skills you're learning today are used to solve global problems tomorrow.
The Grand Finale Every Friday afternoon is dedicated to the Under the Hood Project Showcase. This is your chance to step into the role of a Lead Data Scientist.
Present Your Results: Explain your model’s logic, the challenges you overcame, and what your data revealed.
Invite Your Fans: We invite friends, family, and UMN faculty to walk the floor, ask questions, and see your work in action.
Portfolio Building: You’ll leave with a project you can link to on college applications or a future resume
We operate out of the heart of the UMN East Bank. Most of your "Deep Work" happens in the labs at Keller Hall, a hub for computer science and engineering.
State-of-the-Art Labs: You’ll be working in modern collaborative spaces designed for team-based coding and brainstorming.
Tate Hall Retreats: For lunch and group discussions, we move to Tate Hall. Its open, light-filled atriums are the perfect place to step back from the screen and refresh your perspective.
