DNP Enhancement & Enrichment Programming
The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Enhancement and Enrichment Programming (DEEP) has been designed because we value the relationship and engagement that is fostered when we are able to spend “DEEP” time with each other (students and faculty). For this reason, we have developed an intensive day held one time each semester when all of our DNP students are on campus.
The Spring 2024 DEEP day will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2024 in the Great Hall, Coffman Memorial Union.
Please review the day's agenda.
We have intentionally designed our Spring DEEP day to focus on the impacts and implications for advanced nursing practice related to suicide. Nurses know that suicide is at epidemic proportions and a public health problem. Even though many nurses sometimes feel ill-prepared, we are often called upon to address the risks and intervene. During our time, Emma Benoit will share her story and message of hope and inspiration, followed by a panel of advanced practice nurses, Sue Abderholden and Elizabeth Murchie who will discuss care implications, prevention, and larger system and policy implications.
During your time with specialties you will debrief the morning's session with your colleagues. We understand this topic may be difficult so we have intentionally designed the time to be both enriching and informative. As you prepare for the day, it is important to care for yourself. We hope you will nurture your whole self, including emotional self care as we address this important topic. Please connect with your specialty coordinator if you have questions about the day.
Objectives:
Appreciate the lived experience of a suicide attempt survivor
Identify skills and resources related to suicide risk identification and prevention
Analyze methods to apply learned skills for suicide prevention in nursing practice
Demonstrate self awareness of attitudes, beliefs and emotional reactions related to suicide
The objectives of DEEP include:
To foster learning and leadership as a member of the interprofessional healthcare team
To develop successful strategies for transitioning to the advanced nursing practice role
To enhance students' scholarly capabilities and success
To set the foundation for the legacy and generativity each student will carry forward post-graduation
To foster engagement with our community, mentors, faculty and preceptors
To support student wellbeing and resilience with specific actions and support
Note that not every objective will be addressed at every DEEP day, rather the objectives will be addressed throughout the DNP student experience.
Please return to this site after DEEP day to evaluate your experience. The Evaluation link will be available for students immediately after DEEP day.
