Research Facilitators
What is a research facilitator?
A research facilitator is an experienced research staff member that offers faculty onsite support services at most of our clinic sites. Research facilitators provide support and leadership to develop and operationalize research projects within the Practice Based Research Network (PBRN). This support applies to research needs throughout the project lifecycle including, but not limited to the services listed below.
Services offered by research facilitators
- Idea gathering and refining research ideas
Brainstorm research ideas with faculty
Assist with and submit proposal and consult requests to the Research Services Portal
Connect to librarian for literature review
Connect with leadership on dissemination of study throughout network
Suggest tools and resources for partnerships and collaborations
2. Development of protocol and study materials
Assist faculty with writing the human subjects research determination form, study protocols and recruitment materials, among others
Assist with REDCap database and form/survey creation
Assist with creating e-consents, as needed
Assist with tasks in OnCore
Assist with drafting other materials/documents, as needed
3. Initial IRB review process
Work with PI to enter study documents into ETHOS
Coordinate collaboratively with IRB and PI for study approval
4. Project implementation
Submit BPIC (i.e. data pull) requests, as needed, and attend BPIC meeting with PI
Coordinate logistics, i.e. procurements, scheduling meetings, notifying key stakeholders, taking meeting minutes, etc.
Set up ClinCard or participant compensation, as needed
Assist with recruitment and training clinic staff on protocols
5. Ongoing support
Assist with IRB modification and annual reports
Update enrollment numbers in OnCore
Set up ClinCard accounts and distribute participant compensation
Schedule and lead Clinic Research Committee meetings
Connect faculty and researchers with department resources
Meet with students/trainees and residents to consult on projects in collaboration with their faculty mentors
Connect to community and find community networks
Liaison to clinic staff to make them aware of research projects and results
Meet 1:1 with faculty and researchers, as needed
Manage recruitment strategies and outlets
Assist with data collection, entry and quality assurance
6. Dissemination
Ensure participating clinics and key stakeholders receive the results
Review manuscripts at a high level, depending on capacity
7. Study close
Assist with completing the final IRB report
