Collaborative Scholarship Intensive (CSI)

The six-session course has a curriculum focused on providing faculty members with the structured guidance and technical assistance needed to take their research and scholarship activities to the next level.

Are you looking for help understanding how to get started publishing your research and scholarship (and eager to earn your academic incentive)?

Applications are now being accepted for the next cohort of the Collaborative Scholarship Intensive (CSI)!

Deadline to apply is July 24, 2026.

Faculty interested in joining this year's CSI cohort should apply promptly by completing the application found here.

In alignment with medical school and DFMCH goals to increase faculty scholarship, CSI is structured to help participants add at least 2 scholarly projects to their curriculum vitae, including a presentation at the 2027 MAFP Innovation and Research Forum (or similar) and a manuscript submitted for peer review.

Specific goals for the course include:

Increased awareness of how to best utilize DFMCH and medical school research resources
Improved efficiency in completing all components of a research project
Enhanced and more proficient writing ability
Greater skill in initiating and managing collaborative work with colleagues
Improved ability to respond to peer review and become a constructive peer reviewer
Development of a manuscript to be submitted for peer review with a scientific journal
Disseminate work by presenting at the 2027 MAFP Innovation and Research Forum or other relevant conferences

One of the most acclaimed elements of CSI is the structured one-to-one work time that is built into the afternoon of all six sessions allowing participants to immediately apply what they learned that morning. DFMCH faculty mentors and research facilitators are on hand to guide each participant as they improve their research skills.

Attendance at all six sessions is expected; necessitating that each participant's clinical and teaching duties be accommodated with support form their program director/administrative supervisor as needed. Participants should also plan for protected time between course sessions to be spent on writing and other homework.

The current plan is to hold the first session in person on campus, and the remaining sessions will be held virtually.
