Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
We provide expert care when patients are diagnosed with premature or aggressive cardiovascular disease. Overall, our program seeks to understand the causes of premature vascular disease and complex or persistent lipid problems, and to help reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events through lifestyle guidance and medical treatment.
Established by Dr. Jay Cohn in 2001 and currently directed by Dr. Daniel Duprez, the Rasmussen Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention has developed innovative means of assessing individual risks for cardiovascular disease. Typically, heart-disease screening is limited to testing blood pressure and cholesterol. In addition to these basic tests, the Rasmussen Center also uses a variety of noninvasive techniques to detect risk factors before many patients become symptomatic. The Rasmussen 10-point test provides a more comprehensive evaluation to ensure that the most effective preventive measures are taken to reduce risks for cardiovascular diseases.
The lipid clinic at the University of Minnesota is one of the oldest established lipid clinics in the USA and the world. Our lipid clinic provides expert, interdisciplinary evaluations and treatments to prevent cardiovascular disease at three levels: primary prevention, secondary prevention, and tertiary prevention. Other conditions treated include statin intolerance.
