Kevin Henkes has been writing and illustrating children’s books for over thirty years. According to Kevin, it's the only real job he has ever had, and it's a job he loves. "When my work is going well" he says, "it’s transformative. I feel as if I’ve been removed from ordinary time and am living in some parallel universe, a world of grace and wonder."
Kevin is the author of dozens of books and has received numerous awards. Among his many critically acclaimed titles are two Caldecott Honor Books, Owen and Waiting, as well as two Newbery Honor Books, Olive's Ocean and The Year of Billy Miller.
Kevin knows that books are often the first exposure to art that children have. Keeping that in mind urges him to make the vry best books possible. He says: " I know how important the books from my childhood were (and are) to me. Without them, I might not be a writer and artist today."
Henkes grew up in Racine, Wisconsin and currently resides in Madison, Wisconsin.
