Internship/Professional Experience Information for CFAN 4096 and CFAN 3096

CFAN 4096 or CFAN 3096 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities
There are 5 steps in the process of enrolling in CFAN 3096 or CFAN 4096,
both of which give CFANS students CFANS experiential learning credit.

Your experience will qualify if you...
Will spend more than 120 hours in the experience (you may do 30 of these hours before or after the semester of your experience).
Are completing a project or undertaking activities related to your major field or intended profession
Have begun your experience no more than 6 months prior to the first day of the course
Will be supervised by someone in your intended profession who is not a member of your family
Will be able to attend the required virtual class meetings for the course
If you have any doubt about whether your internship/professional experience will be approved, ask the Internship Coordinator, Mari Ruddy, before accepting your experience. mmruddy@umn.edu
If you are doing your internship outside of the US:
You must have access to the course site on Canvas throughout your experience
Your internship supervisor must be able to respond in English to emails and evaluations
Check the GPS Alliance website for countries that require pre-approval for student international travel.
Register your international travel with the Student International Travel Registry. Through that process, you will complete an online health and safety module through Canvas and receive University-approved international medical insurance.
Please note, only CFANS undergrads or degree seeking undergrads of CCAPS may take these two courses.
Both CFAN 4096 and CFAN 3096 meet the CFANS experiential learning requirement.
Summer Internships/Experiences:
If your internship or professional experience takes place during the summer, take one of the following:
Option 1: CFAN 4096 - Students complete an 8-week, non-credit online Canvas reflection module during the summer prior to registering for this fall course.

Option 2: CFAN 3096 - Students complete the course concurrently with their internship experience.

Fall or Spring Internships/Experiences:
If your internship or professional experience takes place during the fall or spring semesters, take CFAN 3096 during the semester in which you are completing your internship experience.
