From Clinicians to Visionaries: Cultivating Academic Leadership in Cardiac Critical Care
Focus: This session is dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders in cardiac critical care by equipping them with the skills, vision, and resilience needed for academic leadership roles. Participants will explore pathways to develop as influential educators, researchers, and program directors who can drive innovation and shape the future of cardiac critical care. The session will cover key areas essential for academic growth, including building a scholarly portfolio, securing research funding, and developing leadership skills specific to an academic setting. Additional topics include navigating career advancement, promoting diversity in academic medicine, and cultivating collaborative research networks. The session will also provide practical advice on leveraging professional organizations as platforms for career growth, networking, and leadership opportunities.

Beyond the Basics: Transforming Cardiac Critical Care Education with Adult Learning Theory
Focus: Applying principles of adult education, such as experiential learning, reflective practice, and self-directed learning, to elevate cardiac critical care training. This could cover optimizing educational methods for advanced learners, integrating simulation-based learning, and developing strategies to improve retention and real-world application of complex critical care concepts. Specifically this session will discuss sequential training (cards then cc) vs integrated programs

Expanding the Critical Care Cardiology Workforce: Reduced standards vs. Expanded Training
Focus: This discussion will explore strategies to address the growing demand for critical care cardiologists while maintaining high standards of care and training. Topics will include assessing workforce shortages (specifically defining the numbers needed, number of training programs needed) identify the number of programs that may go unfilled, interventional cardiology this year and hf this year as examples. We will also discuss, the balance between expanding the pipeline versus maintaining or enhancing training rigor, and the implications of these choices for patient outcomes and the field's future. Should we focus on creating standards with the currently available resources or as aspirations for years to come (how did EP do this?)?. The group will also discuss innovative approaches to recruitment, mentorship, and curriculum design to ensure excellence and sustainability in the workforce with an eye to DEI as well
