Webinar - Navigating the LBGTQ+ Legal Environment - Watch the recording here
January 24th, 12:00-1:00pm CST - Virtual event
While LGBTQ people have won an increasing number of legal protections in the past few decades, recent legislative action and judicial decisions, most notably the Supreme Court's ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, threaten to undermine these efforts. Join us for a lively discussion surveying the legal landscape for LGBTQ people in the US, as University of Minnesota adjunct professor Nate Freeman breaks down the implications of recent cases, predicts what will come next, and offers a different interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment.
Speaker Bio:
Nate Freeman is a graduate of Whitman College and Yale Law School, where he was a co-director of the LGBT Litigation Project. He served as a law clerk on the United States District Court for the District of Utah for the Honorable Tena Campbell and the Honorable Robert J. Shelby, the first federal judge to interpret the Supreme Court’s decision in Windsor. He then clerked on the Constitutional Court of South Africa for Justice Edwin Cameron, an openly gay and openly HIV-positive jurist known for his advocacy in these areas. After cycling 7,500 miles from Cairo to Cape Town to meet LGBTQ activists, Nate worked as a legal consultant for the Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum in Kampala, Uganda. He is currently an attorney with the Minnesota Tax Court and an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, where he teaches a seminar on LGBTQ rights. He has been published by the Columbia Journal and American Theatre.

Carlson Alumni Pride Network attended the Twin Cities Pride Festival to kick-off the network! The event had everything - even a visit from the Minneapolis Mayor himself! Our Carlson alumni walked away with cool, colorful swag to show off the new affinity network, and most of all, an awareness that we are now live and looking to recruit more allies and LGBTQ+ alum to join the group!
We are so thankful to the volunteers for their time helping us at the booth, and though it was scorching hot outside, we are definitely looking forward to seeing more people next year! So please spread the word and help us make Carlson Pride the best network it can be.
