Why was I selected for this experience?
We are seeking to bring together a cohort of diverse (geographic, ethnic, sectoral, etc.) Minnesota community-based changemakers spanning arts, sciences, culture, policy, agriculture, and creative solutions. You have been nominated by your peers as precisely this kind of creative, impactful individual who is making unique contributions and going above and beyond to support your communities in building a sustainable, equitable, and resilient future. You may be doing this through creative endeavors, deep dedication about a particular cause, or by being an early adopter of something new. Leadership and being an agent of change can take many forms and we are endeavoring to cultivate a group that represents a diversity of perspectives about what constitutes being a changemaker. We hope that you are excited to engage in this unique opportunity with a willingness to be open to new ideas and perspectives, and the benefits of being part of a new network of changemakers from across the state.
What are the goals of this cohort?
Over three days at Aspen Ideas: Climate 2024, we will gather together, get to know, and learn from each other. We will also interact with global and local policymakers, scientists, business and NGO leaders, energy experts, artists, young leaders, members of the public, and others, for a series of dialogues aimed at activating even greater climate action and collaboration.
What's required of me before, during, and after the conference?
The primary goal is for you to attend and have a meaningful experience at the Aspen Ideas: Climate Festival. To make this possible,:
We ask that you make every effort to attend one of our scheduled orientation meetings or work with our team to meet one-on-one before the event to ensure your questions and needs are addressed.
During the conference, we will have space for at least one daily group meeting and we will decide as a group how to best plan for and use this time together, as well as planning for any additional group gatherings that you can choose to join.
We will also host a group dinner that we hope everyone can attend during the evening of Wed, March 13th after the conference ends and before we travel home the following day.
As a group, we will discuss and decide about meeting again after the conference.
Will my travel and meal costs be reimbursed? How does this process work?
To minimize any out-of-pocket travel expenses, our team is committed to working with you to register for the festival, book flights, and other significant travel arrangements. You will be reimbursed a total per diem of $310 for the week for food and other incidental expenses — you don't need receipts for per diem-related expenses. In addition, we are able to reimburse baggage and ground transportation costs but you must provide a receipt.
How will the group communicate while at the conference?
We plan to use an app like WhatsApp to enable group communications during the conference. More details will be shared during orientation meetings and via email.
Who is the best contact for questions or in case of emergency?
Please contact Nate Meyer meyer179@umn.edu or Maria Tomczik mariat@umn.edu with any immediate needs before or during the Festival. We will also share our phone numbers in case you need to contact us during the festival.
