Bio
Asha Hassan (she/her) has a BA in Gender and Women's Studies from the University of Wisconsin Madison and an MPH in Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. In 2020, Asha was named a Society of Family Planning Emerging Scholar, in 2021 a National Birth Equity Research Scholar, and in 2022 she was awarded fellowship funding from the National Institute of Health. Asha also gives frequent expert interviews on racism, equity, and reproductive health with media outlets like ProPublica, CNN, NBC, and The Guardian.
Research interests
Conceptualizing structural racism's relationship to family planning access and decision-making, understanding police violence as a manifestation of structural racism and its effects on reproductive health, and assessing the intersections of disability and reproductive justice in clinical and government policy.
