Alonso Quijano-Ruiz (he/his) is a PhD student in Health Policy & Management (Health Economics). He is also Co-Director of the Ecuadorian Development Research Lab, where he has secured several grants to support the training of young researchers from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Alonso uses rigorous experimental and quasi-experimental methods to understand the impacts of health policy on population outcomes, with a focus on global health. He has published research on women's health and primary care interventions. Most recently, a lot of his research has revolved around understanding how parents invest in children's health and how these decisions affect short- and long-term outcomes.
Alonso's academic interests emerged from an interdisciplinary background. Before pursuing doctoral studies, he worked at Deloitte as a Mergers and Acquisitions Advisor. He later transitioned into health services research after spending five years in China, where he completed graduate studies in Musicology and collaborated on clinical trial research using music therapy with stroke patients.
