Animal law refers generally to the body of law that considers or affects nonhuman animals. This includes case law, statutory law, rules and regulations, and so on. The field of animal law itself has a variety of specialties and ties to other areas of the legal system. For a more in-depth explanation, check out the Animal Law 101 article from ALDF.

ALDF at UMN is made up of Minnesota Law students that are affiliated with the Animal Legal Defense Fund and share its mission. We are entirely student-run, and do not speak for the Animal Legal Defense Fund. However, benefit from their support and work closely with their attorneys and staff to provide effective and meaningful impact for students and animals.

Unfortunately, our membership is limited to registered students at the University of Minnesota Law School. However, there are still plenty of ways for undergraduates to get involved! There are animal welfare organizations on campus, or if you are interested in specific opportunities please contact aldf@umn.edu for additional resources.
