Adolescent Health

Interdisciplinary Graduate Group

Description

The Healthy Youth Development Prevention Research Center (PRC,) led by Michael Resnick, PhD and Renee Sieving, PhD and the Center for Adolescent Nursing (CAN), led by Lyn Bearinger, PhD are among the premier sites in the country for adolescent health research and training. By joining forces with collaborative partners from state and local organizations (Departments of Education and Public Health) and community agencies (Teenwise Minnesota), we aim to be the premier trainers of adolescent health in the state. With the addition of the Office of Public Engagement and graduate students, this graduate group seeks to bring best practices in adolescent health to a broad audience of both academic and community practitioners.

By providing research to practice knowledge to graduate students, practitioners and community members from around the state, this group will exemplify the University of Minnesota’s goal of Illuminating the State. Through rigorous training in an innovative, week-long intensive course, graduate students and community practitioners will learn the best methods for providing teens with the necessary skills and opportunities to live healthy and meaningful lives.

Leadership

The primary contact for this group is Jenny Oliphant (Department of Pediatrics). Additional members of the leadership team are Renee E. Sieving and Jenna Baumgartner.
