This presentation focuses on remediation in the Brazilian context, spanning education, law, indigeneity, race, and health. Drawing on Brazil's distinct trajectory of racial formation and its evolving legal and policy responses to structural inequality, the talk examines how remedies – from affirmative action in higher education to land rights for Indigenous communities, from anti-discrimination law to health equity initiatives – have been conceived, contested, and implemented. It situates these efforts within Brazil's broader history of the mythology of racial democracy and the social movements that have challenged it, offering a comparative lens for thinking about remediation strategies across national contexts.
