Biography: Nisha Botchwey, PhD, has served as dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs since January 2022, and is a NAPA Fellow and NASPAA president-elect. Previously, she was associate dean for academic programs at Georgia Tech Professional Education, where she led program development and curriculum, oversaw outreach and student affairs, and helped steer Georgia Tech’s COVID-19 response. A tenured associate professor in Georgia Tech’s School of City and Regional Planning, she also directed the Healthy Places Lab, served as an adjunct professor at Emory University’s School of Public Health, and taught at the University of Virginia from 2003–2011. Her research sits at the intersection of environmental and health policy and the built environment, with a particular focus on youth engagement and health equity, and she has secured more than $16 million in external funding across 30+ grant-funded projects. Botchwey is co-editor of Making Healthy Places, Second Edition (Island Press, 2022) and co-author of Health Impact Assessment in the United States, and her work has been recognized with honors including the 2021 Dale Prize for Excellence in Urban and Regional Planning and recognition from the White House Council on Women and Girls.
