Biography: Kiki Somerville Metcalfe is a cultural strategist, educator, entrepreneur, and founder of The Fearless Artist (TFA), an organization she launched in 2011 to help artists build sustainable careers through education, exhibitions, mentorship, and community engagement. A lawyer by training with graduate study in Social Practice at George Washington University, her work explores the intersection of art, community development, education, and cultural leadership.
Her current research focuses on Culture as Infrastructure, a developing framework that examines how artists, education, cultural institutions, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and civic partnerships contribute to thriving communities. Using the Chesapeake Bay region as a living case study, she is integrating historical research, museum partnerships, youth education, artist residencies, and public programming into a place-based model for cultural stewardship.
Through TFA, Somerville Metcalfe also leads the Young Curators Program, Fearless Artist Kids, and the emerging Art Cart initiative, connecting artists, youth, and communities through creative engagement. She speaks nationally on arts entrepreneurship, creative placemaking, and cultural strategy, developing practical models that connect art, research, education, and civic life.
