Biography: Jeffrey R. Yost is Director of the Charles Babbage Institute (CBI) for Computing, Information, and Culture and Research Professor of History of Science, Technology, and Medicine (HSTM), at the University of Minnesota. CBI is an interdisciplinary research center and leading archives on the digital world, a partnership of HSTM in the College of Science and Engineering and University Libraries. Yost’s research focuses on business, social, economic, and cultural history of information technology (IT). His current and recent publication projects are on the history of cybersecurity, labor, privacy, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and societal inequality. He has published nine books, most recently, Making IT Work (MIT Press, 2017), the co-authored Computer: A History of the Information Machine, 4th ed. (Routledge, 2023), and co-edited Just Code (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2025). He has also published over one hundred oral histories of IT pioneers. Active in editorial leadership, Yost is past Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Annals of the History of Computing and currently co-edits a book series with Johns Hopkins University Press, Studies on Computing and Culture, and the journal Interfaces. He is on three scholarly journal editorial boards including the leading journal in his field, Technology and Culture.  He is a six-time National Science Foundation principal investigator, and has also done projects for IBM, DOE, Sloan, IEEE, and ACM. He serves on the ACM History Committee.
