Biography: James Njenga is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa, where he has taught and researched for nearly two decades. With a background in business computing at the intersection of digital technologies and society, spanning digital entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and digital inclusion, with a particular commitment to harnessing technology for social inclusion in marginalised communities in Africa. His research examines how digital technologies can empower people in under-resourced settings, how organisations navigate digital transformation, and how emerging technologies, from big data in logistics to health information systems, can be applied to development challenges in the Global South. He has published in information systems and education journals on topics including e-learning adoption, digital inclusion, social innovation, and digital entrepreneurship in African contexts. In the scholarship of teaching and learning, he focuses on experiential learning for digital technologies, most recently through industry-partnered capstone courses that immerse students in real-world AI, data analytics, and IoT projects, which he is currently extending into published research on student experience and graduate readiness for Industry 4.0 He speaks regularly on digital entrepreneurship, experiential learning, and the role of information systems education in preparing graduates for a rapidly digitalising African economy.
