Asynchronous Interview

Review the following instructions before 

you start the asynchronous interview.

To complete your asynchronous interview, log in to the applicant portal and navigate to the 'Asynchronous Video Interview Part 1' tab in the left menu. In Part 1 you will record a test response to confirm your audio and video are working correctly. 

After Part 1 is submitted, the 'Asynchronous Video Interview Part 2' tab will become available in the left menu for you to begin your interview. You can expect to complete the asynchronous interview within 15 minutes. 

Please complete your asynchronous interview prior to attending your Mission interview.

If you encounter any problems with recording your asynchronous interview responses, please contact us at medadmis@umn.edu and we will follow-up as soon as we can. Sending us a notification email will ensure that your deadline for the asynchronous interview is extended.

Asynchronous Video Interview Part 1:

In Part 1 you will record a test response to confirm your audio and video are working correctly before proceeding to the interview questions in Part 2. 

Browser & Device Requirements:

• Do not use a mobile device.

• You will need to have video and microphone settings enabled in your browser.

Testing Instructions:

• To begin, click on the 'Start Recording' button. 

• Confirm that your video recording starts and you can see yourself in the video recording window. Test your audio by speaking during the recording.

• When you are done recording, click on the 'Stop Recording' button for the video file to save.

• Click on the 'View File' button to view your recording and confirm that both your video and audio were working correctly. You can record a test response as many times as you would like.

Please note that the 'View File' option is only available during testing. You will see a 'View File' button after recording your interview responses in Part 2 but you will not be permitted to view your videos post recording. If you click on 'View File' in Part 2 it will open a new window with 'Document not found.'

• Once you are done with testing, click 'Submit' at the bottom of the page.

• Navigate to the 'Asynchronous Video Interview Part 2' in the left menu to begin your interview. 

Asynchronous Video Interview Part 2:

In Part 2 you will complete your interview responses. Please review the information below before clicking on the 'Start' button to begin your assessment.

Browser & Device Requirements:

• Do not use a mobile device.

• You will need to have video and microphone settings enabled in your browser.

Timed Responses:

• You can expect to complete the asynchronous interview within 15 minutes. 

• There are 3 questions in total. Each question has a 5 minute time limit which starts counting down when you click the 'Question' button.

• Do not click on the 'Question 1' button until you are fully prepared to begin your asynchronous interview as the countdown timer will begin. 

Video Recording:

• To begin your asynchronous interview, click on 'Question 1' to read the first question. The 5 minute countdown timer will begin. You should take the first 2 minutes to review the question and the remaining 3 minutes to provide your video response. When you are ready to start recording your response, click on the 'Start Recording' button.

• When you are ready to end the recording, click on the 'Stop Recording' button. Please note that this option becomes inactive at 30 seconds remaining. You can continue recording beyond this point but you will have to wait for the 5 minute countdown timer to run out. Your response will save automatically. 

• Do not move on to the next question until the 5 minute countdown from your previous question is complete. This is important as the page refreshes and this will interrupt your next recording. 

• After you complete each question, you will see a 'View File' button but you will not be permitted to view your video responses post recording. If you click on 'View File' it will open a new window with 'Document not found.'

• You are not allowed to reupload responses.

Submit Assessment:

• Click the 'Submit' button at the bottom of the page after you've finished recording a response for each question and the Question 3 countdown timer is complete.

• After you submit, you will see the 'View File' button next to each question but you will not be permitted to view your video responses post submission. If you click on 'View File' it will open a new window with 'Document not found.'

• Should you have any issues with your asynchronous interview, please contact us at medadmis@umn.edu. You will not be penalized in any way for needing assistance.
