MINNESOTA DRAGON BOAT CLUB

About Us

The Minnesota Dragon Boat Club provides education, training, and a team experience for all paddlers, including beginners. We center on opportunities for everyone directly or indirectly touched by cancer. Emphasizing the role of physical fitness in disease prevention and management, we foster community, compassion, challenge, and competition.

Dragon boating is a team racing sport. Our dragon boats each seat 20 paddlers (10 rows of 2 side-by-side paddlers facing forward) with a drummer (or coach) at the bow, facing the paddlers, and a steersperson standing at the back, facing forward.

We practice on St. Paul’s Lake Phalen at least twice a week to prepare for festivals (race days) in the Twin Cities, in Minnesota, nationally, and internationally. MNDBC currently selects local and neighboring state festivals for team participation. We love being on the water in our dragon boats Aurora and Rose, and we have a lot of fun!

MNDBC welcomes everyone by minimizing barriers to participation. We encourage members to move out of their comfort zones to try new activities. We seek athletic camaraderie in the worldwide dragon boating community.

Membership is open to adults from 18 to 99 years of age. Our team includes survivors of brain cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, melanoma, and ovarian cancer, as well as their families, friends, caregivers, health care professionals, and supporters.

You too can be a dragon boater! Try before you buy at the Minnesota Dragon Boat Club’s Rally Day and Open Paddle on Saturday, June 4, 2022! We’ll supply a coach, a dragon boat, paddle, and life vest. Watch our website for details! CODE WORD: BOAT
