A University of Michigan Student Sponsored Organization
Wolverine Omni Wind (WOW) is a University of Michigan Student Sponsored Organization operating under the Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering Department. We are a diverse team of undergraduate students from a wide range of academic backgrounds, working to combat climate change through the exploration and innovation of renewable energy technologies.
WOW competes in the Clean Energy Workforce Competition (CWC+), a wind energy-focused competition that aims to rapidly transform bold new ideas into real energy solutions to accelerate renewable energy innovation. The CWC+ offers our team a platform to explore, build, and pursue future renewable energy careers through hands-on development of wind technology, project development, finance, communications, and outreach.
Wolverine Omni Wind is broken up into three primary teams that allow for the most effective approach to the CWC+'s contests; Mechanical, Electrical, and Project Development. We all coordinate and do not operate in isolation, these three specializations mean for the most direct execution of specific skills and talents that benefit each contest!
The Engineering Team designs, builds, and tests wind turbines while developing real-world skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and project management. Through hands-on projects and an iterative design process, members gain practical experience that prepares them for real engineering challenges.

The Site Planning Team evaluates wind turbine locations while gaining skills in analysis, logistics, and financial planning. They assess site conditions, local impacts, supply chains, and project finances to support effective development. This research is then presented to a board of engineers.
We strive to help usher in a new era of clean energy by harnessing the power of wind.
We represent the University of Michigan against 12 other collegiate teams.
