Use the calculator below to estimate cost and energy savings by using geothermal heating and cooling.
*For more information on applicable incentives to you, please see the 'Financial Incentives' section of the Resources tab.
DISCLAIMER: The calculator uses rules of thumb based on air and ground source heat pump efficiency in Michigan. Installation costs assume the install of a new geothermal system including ducting, thermostat, flow center, and heat pump. Borehole type geothermal is assumed. Retrofits with ductwork already installed may be cheaper, retrofits needing ductwork installed may be more expensive. Heat loss is estimated as an average based on the selected type of housing. All homes are different and this is not a guarantee of pricing, but simply a ball-park estimate. Geothermal installation costs are based on $3000/ heating ton for inside mechanicals and borehole loops are estimated at $35/ft with 200 ft of depth needed per ton of heating load. Yearly CO2 emissions are calculated based on average emissions associated with the grid in the US in 2022. This will vary by region and year.
