µFO organized one of three different science and engineering themed activities for high school aged girls from the Ann Arbor and greater Detroit areas. The students were given hands-on training in basic microfluidic design using paper microfluidics as a model. Students drew on coffee filter paper with crayons that were then placed on a hot plate to melt the wax through the paper creating a barrier to prevent water from flowing past. Students then used water with food coloring to visualize flow patterns and make fun and informative pictures out of their devices.
