Assistant Professor at Wayne State University | Founder | Researcher
I am an Assistant Professor at Wayne State University’s School of Information, where I lead research at the vital intersection of Digital Humanities, Human-Centered Computing and Urban Information.
My research looks beyond digital access to understand how intimacy, care, and conflict unfold in online spaces. I study how Black digital communities navigate platform harm while sustaining connection, accountability, and joy. Through multi-sited qualitative research published in venues like DIS, CSCW and ACM CHI, my work explores how digital intimacy and care practices support restorative justice in both virtual and urban life.
I am the Principal Investigator of the Digital 313 Archive, a Knight Foundation–funded initiative that examines Detroit as an “information city,” documenting how digital, cultural, and community infrastructures shape access, safety, and imagination. My research investigates how Black communities—particularly youth and Black women—navigate digital systems to manage conflict, care, and belonging, with recent scholarship on global Black online culture wars (#DiasporaWars), technomediated justice in digitally facilitated restorative practices, and participatory design approaches, including the use of virtual reality to support safety and resilience. Across this work, my aim is to translate rigorous, community-engaged research into public knowledge, ethical design principles, and policy-relevant insights that inform more just and humane information systems.
I am a firm believer in public knowledge that lives beyond university walls. Outside of teaching graduate courses on the Information Society and directing my research lab, you can find me practicing hot yoga, capoeira, contributing to early-stage technology entrepreneurship, or traveling—often using new places as sites of reflection and inspiration for my work.
