Impact 

The SunBundle has donated shoes and athletic resources to programs domestically and internationally, aiming to educate and empower communities, while bridging the poverty gap.

1 in 3 American families live below the poverty line, meaning millions of individuals don't have access to new shoes. Out of these communities, about 28% have little to no health literacy resources. 

• We are partners with The Corner Health Center in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The mission of the Corner Health Center is to inspire young adults and children to live and sustain healthy lives by providing them with affordable health and wellness care and education. Within this community, we've partnered by holding 'Mindful Mondays', yoga classes, and distributing SunBundles.

• Our first international initiative went toward sending resources to the KPK refugee school in Pakistan. We wanted to emphasize the importance of wellness and health to the Afghan child refugees at Aisha Academy by distributing soccer balls, water bottles, clothes, shoes, and meal packages.

• The SunBundle's initaitve will be going to Tajikistan in early June of 2024. A member of SunBundle's student organization will be taking part in a mission trip, where we'll distribute 30 different carepackages, and 50 total pairs of up-cycled sneakers.

We receive shoe donations in all conditions, and when they aren't suitable for our care-packages, we recycle them.

Over 240 million pairs of athletic shoes end up in landfills annually. Additionally, around 95% of people want to be involved in sustainable recycling, but only 13% recycle their athletic footwear.

At The SunBundle, we categorize our donations as new, good, fair, or poor quality. We work with TerraCycle in order to give shoes that are in poor quality, a new life. Running shoes are composed of plastic, foam, fabric and rubber. TerraCycle size-reduces material (makes smaller by shredding or grounding), sorts, melts and reformats them into reusable material and textiles.
