Call for TCT Distinguished Lecturers (2: Europe, Middle East & Africa, 3: Asia & Pacific)
The IEEE RAS Technical Committee for Telerobotics (TCT) is seeking up to two Distinguished Lecturers (DL), for two RAS Geographic Regions (2: Europe, Middle East & Africa, 3: Asia & Pacific). Interested applicants should email their applications to the TCT Co-Chairs (Keyvan Hashtrudi-Zaad, khz@queensu.ca and Claudio Pacchierotti, claudio.pacchierotti@irisa.fr) by September 20, 2024. The application should include:
A recent, detailed CV with a webpage URL demonstrating the applicant’s research accomplishment and a short biography in English (limit to 200 words)
Tentative Title and Abstract (limit to 200 words) of at least one technical Talk in English (max two talks)
RAS Geographic Region of the applicant (2: Europe, Middle East & Africa, 3: Asia & Pacific)
Applicants from underrepresented groups, such as women and minorities, are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates will be nominated by the TC and reviewed by an approval committee, including representatives from the MAB (Member Activities Board), TAB (Technical Activities Board), and RAS leadership.
For your information, the current DLs of IEEE RAS are listed below by TC and Name, respectively.
The TCT aims to promote research in telerobotics and its applications. The DL for TCT shares the same aim by providing quality talks on cutting-edge technologies, especially when requested by RAS Sections, Student Branches, Chapters, or other groups, for two years. The position can be renewed once. RAS will support dedicated travels of the DL up to $3,000 based on the RAS travel reimbursement guidelines (https://www.ieee-ras.org/about-ras/volunteer-resources/reimbursement-procedures-for-travel-and-other-expenses).
ICRA 2024 Workshop: Human-Centric Multilateral Teleoperation: Perception, Telecommunication, and Coordination : This full-day workshop will provide a platform to delve into the forefront of teleoperation augmentation by seamlessly merging multi-dimensional aspects of human-robot interaction (HRI) and information and communication technology (ICT) from the standing point of humans, such as the multimodal sensory feedback and interface developments to understand and assist humans naturally and effectively as an acquainted partner, and promising 5G and Beyond wireless communications driven by user usage characteristics.
ICRA 2024 Workshop:Applications and Future Directions of Affective Technologies: This workshop will bring together researchers across robotic development, robot application, and HRI/HCI to discuss/share the latest research/findings/methods related to technology centered on human’s emotional responses. In this workshop, we will encourage an interactive and interdisciplinary dialogue between leading researchers, young researchers, and the clinical and industrial sectors.
ICRA 2024 Workshop: Society of Avatar-Symbiosis through Social Field Experiments: This workshop aims to envision a future society in which individuals can actively engage with the world through the use of cybernetic avatars, all can play an active role in Avatar-Symbiotic Society. In workshop, Cybernetic avatars, referred to as CAs, semi-autonomous tele-operated robots and CG agents. CAs are expected to offer humans a myriad of virtual and physical services to free us from limitations of body, brain, space, and time in order to perform active social roles without constraint. The goal of the field of CAs’ study is to develop and implement avatar-symbiosis within a harmonious future society. By promoting coexistence between humans and CAs, our goal is to create a more inclusive society where all individuals, including those facing challenges such as the physical, cognitive, perceptual even gender domains, could be able to maximize their participation. During the workshop, we will introduce Moonshot Avatar Symbiotic Society Project and human-centered, long-term R&D initiatives from around the world, showcasing advancements in related technologies, as well as sharing insights from various social field experimentations. The discussion of the workshop will lead us to adapt and adjust to a future ‘Cybernetic Avatar Life.’.
