My name is Tate, and I'm a Linguistics Ph.D. student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. My areas of focus include syntax, multilingualism, and language documentation. Specifically, I am interested in how second language acquisition and underdocumented languages can inform our understanding of linguistic universals.
For several years, I have worked in college access and educational equity. I firmly believe that educational equity isn't just about who is taught, but also what is taught. As such, my goal is to continue research on understudied languages and to incorporate unique ideas and perspectives into what I teach.
