We envision Scio Township as a welcoming
community that embraces citizen
The 2023 Scio Township Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action Plan (ESCAP) will guide and integrate with township operations, services, planning, policies, ordinances, and investments to ensure the most sustainable, inclusive, GHG emission reduction options are implemented.
Scio Township will specifically collaborate on the implementation of Resilient Washtenaw, the county’s Climate Action Plan, along with other cities, townships, and villages in Washtenaw County.
Washtenaw County is already experiencing the impacts of climate change, like heavier rain, hotter days, and shifts in plants and wildlife.
In response, the County set a goal to become carbon neutral by 2030 and developed Resilient Washtenaw, its first-ever Climate Action Plan.
Reduce emissions, prepare for climate impacts, and ensure that the County’s work benefits everyone, especially those most vulnerable to climate change.
Building on efforts like preserving natural areas and improving home energy efficiency, the plan emphasizes collaboration with local communities, organizations, and the state.
This is a key step toward creating a more sustainable, resilient future for Washtenaw County.
The Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action Plan (ESCAP) includes a set of aggressive but practical strategies, principles, goals, and actions to help Scio Township reach carbon neutrality, as an organization by 2030, and as a community by 2035. This plan aligns with Resilient Washtenaw goals.
This plan includes seven Areas of Focus: Energy, Mobility, Agriculture, Water, Ecosystems, Waste, and Resilience.
ESCAP is referenced in the Scio Township Master Plan and should be reviewed at least every five years.
In addition, an annual progress report should be issued to the community.
