Torrie is a senior, majoring in Energy Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and minoring in Creative Writing. She’s had an internship at NETL, Pittsburg chemically extracting Rare Earth Elements from industry waste, a lab position with the Chemistry dept, exploring end of life electric vehicle battery recycling, develops sodium-ion batteries for the company Emerald Battery Labs, and is a student advisor for the Office of Campus Sustainability.
In her free time, Torrie is a member of the taekwondo team, reads webcomics, and watches anime.
Wilder Wetzel-Righettini, and I'll be your Vice President this year! Wilder is currently a senior studying business at the Ross School of Business with an emphasis in Sustainability Strategy. Wilder has worked for a sustainability assurance company called 3R Sustainability, where he spent most of his time reviewing climate risk assessments for large companies around the world. Some of his favorite activities include hiking outside with friends, visiting the local jazz club, and working out.
Eli Chernobelsky is a senior at the University of Michigan studying Environmental Science through the Program in the Environment, with a focus on sustainability consulting. He has developed a five-year sustainability roadmap for Michigan Athletics, conducted ESG materiality assessments, and completed an Environmental Science internship with Custom Agronomics. Originally from South Florida and a lifelong Florida Panthers fan, Eli is passionate about clean energy and its role in advancing sustainability, with particular interest in the intersection of energy, sustainability, and sports.
Maya Jaafar is a senior studying Environmental Engineering with a minor in Earth Science. This summer, she interned at the Great Lakes Water Authority in Detroit as an Energy and Resiliency Engineer Intern. Maya also participated in the University of Michigan’s Camp Davis program, taking Earth 344 in Wyoming during the summer of 2025. There, she explored Wyoming’s diverse energy landscape, touring coal-fired power plants, carbon capture facilities, hydropower systems, and solar and wind farms. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of energy systems, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resiliency.
Shaunak Sharma is a junior pursuing a B.S.E. in Materials Science & Engineering with a minor in Energy Science & Policy. Last summer, he interned at Aircapture (Berkeley, CA), helping guide commercial strategy efforts for scaling FOAK Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems for carbonated beverage and concrete applications. At Radial Power (Houston, TX), he guided dashboard production for the ongoing $66M, 25 MW solar installation on the University of Michigan campuses. With NASA’s Earth Science Division (New York, NY). He has experience with bridging policy, climate technology, and data visualizations into tangible solutions for industrial decarbonization and climate adaptation movements.
Jimmy is a third year graduate student in Environmental Engineering and an R&D Chair in SfCE. He is passionate about sustainability and chemistry. He is currently involved in research on electrochemically converting biogas from sources like landfills, which contains the potent greenhouse gas methane, to valuable and useful chemicals like ethanol. In the past, he has done research on the impact of climate change on river flow. Outside of school, Jimmy is an avid runner, painter, and gamer. He is a huge fan of One Piece, Fire Emblem, and Legend of Zelda!
Chiaki is a junior in PitE specializing in Conservation Biology with a minor in Energy Science and Policy. She is from Ann Arbor and likes to make linocuts and jewelry! This summer, she did an internship at the Bird Center of Michigan learning all about rehabilitating native songbirds, as well as leading a project about preventing bird-window collisions. Chiaki is also the Internal Relations Chair of Epsilon Eta, the University's first environmental professional fraternity. Freshman year, she was a part of WISE RP and spent a spring term at the UM Biological Station taking field-based environmental classes.
Valerie is a graduate who majored in PitE and minored in Complex Systems. She currently works for the City of Ann Arbor as a Sustainability and Innovations Fellow focusing on energy program administration and policy development, and previously worked with the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and Progressive Turnout Project to support pro-environment candidates in Michigan local elections. She plans to attend law school next year to pursue a career in energy law. In her spare time, Valerie enjoys rock climbing, landscape photography, and social deduction games.
Gina is currently a junior majoring in Industrial and Operations Engineering. She cares deeply about sustainability and the environment, and enjoys helping others understand what sustainability can look like in practice. Gina is excited to host more social events that engage the broader community. In her free time, she enjoys connecting with people, hiking, and letting her mind wander.
Nevaeh is a Junior pursuing a degree in Industrial and Operations Engineering, and minoring in both Community Action & Social Change and Complex Systems. This past summer she interned for Lacuum (also known as Geomind), a local startup company creating automated robots to clean up pollutants and invasive species in bodies of water, such as lakes. Her main roles there concerned financial analytics and marketing materials. Overall, she's interested in consulting, project management, and operations engineering, while hoping to incorporate both environmental and social sustainability. On campus she's also involved in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Spark Social-Impact Consulting Agency, the African Student Association, and the East African Student Association.
Siham is a 3rd year, majoring in Sociology on the pre-law track. She's mainly done work for Planted Palette, a houseplant organization at U-M and is the Secretary-Treasurer. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Penny, producing music, and playing The Sims 4.
