PhD students have recently formed a Student council with the following mission:
Improve the PhD student experience
Foster involvement of and provide opportunities for PhD students to take ownership over their experience in the department
Promote an inclusive community that integrates and welcomes students from diverse backgrounds
Act as an interface between PhD students and department leadership and provide a student perspective on department matters.
Participation is voluntary and the current chair is Vincenzo. The council oversees multiple student committees.

The Student Seminar holds weekly meetings about research presentations as well as academic and professional discussions.

The GS-JEDI group meets regularly to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, postdocs, visitors, faculty, and staff at all levels of the University of Michigan Department of Statistics, and for the communities adjacent to the department.
MSSISS is a yearly conference organized by students from five UM departments and showcasing research related to Statistics done by UM students.
