Downtown Ypsilanti Lot Expansion & EV Station Proposal 

Who are we?

We are Standard Auto Service, a local auto shop and gas station located on Washtenaw Avenue operating since 1998. We offer low auto repair and gas prices and are proud to be part of the Ypsilanti Community. 

What are we planning on doing?

We are seeking to conditionally rezone the parcel directly behind the business to expand our parking lot and offer several EV charging spots, adding to the only two charging spaces in the City of Ypsilanti.  

What's the history of the parcel?

In 2004, we purchased the lot at 487 Owendale Street. It is vacant except for an old garage situated at the back of the lot. The lot is zoned for residential use, but it is too small for a house that would meet the needs of a family with children or grandchildren. In the time that we have owned the lot no one has approached us to purchase it for residential development.

What's wrong with the current site plan?

The current site plan we are ordered to follow is both impractical and problematic for a variety of reasons. This includes disrupting  the current sidewalk between the residential and commercial portion with a row of trees- making it discontinuous. It also includes impractical parking spots, as shown below. 

If our proposal is not approved, we don't think enforcing the current site plan is good for maintaining a neat, walkable Downtown Ypsilanti. 

Why are we reaching out? 

We are reaching out as we are submitting the application soon, and seek both support and input from the local community. We seek to make Ypsilanti a better place to live and do business.
