About me

Hello, thanks for stopping by! My name is Sarah Raubenheimer. I am an early career researcher with a focus on global change. I am currently working as a researcher and program manager at the Institute for Global Change Biology (University of Michigan). I am a South African who has always loved nature and the outdoors, and (somewhat accidentally) ended up a scientist. Follow me on my Twitter, GoogleScholar and LinkedIn pages for updates on research and publications.

My love for nature began early for me, stemming from the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Mountains, which I was lucky enough to call my playground growing up. From this I developed a passion for anything that allowed me to be in beautiful spaces, be it hiking, running, canoeing, or camping. I have had the pleasure of multi-day hiking (anything from 1 to 32 nights) in various awe-inspiring locations such as the Nepal Himalaya, the Namibian Desert Canyons, the dune fields of the Alexandria Trail, the English Lake District, the Scottish Highlands, and the Swiss and German Alps.

You may ask why, considering the fact that I clearly love mountains, I ended up living in flat Michigan!? Well that comes down to the Institute for Global Change Biology (IGCB). I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to work with some of the top scientists in the global change field. At the IGCB, I contribute to research on plant responses to climatic changes and assist the Director in the management of the institute. My second big love is dogs! And anyone who knows me, knows that my border collie, Koda, is never far behind.
