Health insurance (GradCare), prescription drug coverage, and basic dental are provided to Graduate Student Instructors (GSI), Graduate Student Staff Assistants (GSSA), Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRA), and benefit-eligible fellowship students at no cost to the student. Coverage also includes a spouse, other qualified adult, and/or dependent children at no cost to the student.

Gradcare

GradCare is a medical insurance plan administered by Blue Care Network exclusively for Graduate Student Instructors (GSI), Graduate Student Staff Assistants (GSSA), Graduate Student Research Assistants (GSRA), and benefit-eligible fellowship students.  As with all U-M health plans, prescription drug coverage is included with enrollment.

Dental Plan

The University of Michigan dental plan is administered by Delta Dental of Michigan. For graduate students, the university pays the full premium for Option 1 for the students and their eligible dependents.  Students are able to elect an upgraded option with a monthly premium. 

Vision Plan

Davis Vision, a national administrator of routine vision care programs, provides benefits under the Vision Plan. Each enrolled person may receive an eye exam, one pair of eyeglasses or contact lenses, and frames once each calendar year. There is a monthly rate for enrollment in the plan and there may be an additional copay when you receive services. Students are NOT automatically enrolled in the vision plan and are responsible for monthly premiums.
