Melissa Levine


Melissa Levine is the Director of the University of Michigan Library’s Copyright Office where she brings far-reaching experience in copyright, education, and the arts in large, complex organizations. She empowers teams and individuals to develop responsible approaches to copyright that support transformative learning opportunities and strategic priorities. Melissa identifies opportunity and is a problem-solver with a passion for working with the campus community. In her leadership role, she brings experience in expanding outreach and services, project management, exhibitions, collection development, scholarly communication, open access, and digitization strategies. Her strong national presence is a strategic asset for advancing U-M Library initiatives. Melissa has worked in a variety of roles in museums and libraries -- she is an effective connector with expertise in museum policy and management. She has experience in online and face-to-face teaching as a member of the U-M School of Information faculty (Intellectual Property and Information Law) and for Johns Hopkins’ masters in Museum Studies (Museums, Law, and Policy). She is an appointee to the Library of Congress' IT Modernization Committee for the US Copyright Office, serves in the International Federation of Libraries Association (IFLY) Advisory Committee on Copyright and Related Matters, and participates in the Fulbright Specialist program for international exchange.
