Use Preview's Tailoring Panel to test logic (Do the right tailored messages appear for the right people?)
Use Preview's Tailoring Panel to check grammar (Do the tailored messages come together correctly?)
In your survey or message document, click Preview in the upper right corner.
Preview ignores survey skip patterns and logic. It shows you your whole survey so you can check things like:
Are any questions or words missing or misspelled?
Are your questions in the right order?
Use the Testing Panel (small blue arrow on the right side of the Preview pane) to enter values of tailoring characteristics and check things like:
Do the right paragraphs show up when you change the values?
Do the tailored messages join together grammatically correctly?
Can you get every single row in your document to appear?
In your survey document, click Simulate in the upper right corner to test skip patterns and logic.
Fill out the survey as users would to test things like:
Do the correct error messages show up when people enter too many responses, no response, etc.?
Do questions follow logic and skip patterns as expected?
Are you missing any headers?
Does "Goto" lead to the right location?
Sometimes your dictionary will include derived characteristics. (Example: Age is derived from BirthMonth, BirthDay, BirthYear.)
To test your derived calculations:
Create a message document (like below) that displays substitutions for the derived characteristic and the items that make up the derived.
Use Preview's Tailoring Panel to enter values for each characteristic (here, BirthMonth, BirthDay, and BirthYear) to see whether your derived (here, Age) is calculating properly.
