The Michigan Institute for Progressive Policy is a University of Michigan campus organization that that is dedicated to researching, writing, and advocating for progressive policies across the state of Michigan and beyond. As part of MIPP's Human Rights policy group, our team spent the past academic year researching and drafting a policy idea that would drastically reform the use of solitary confinement in Michigan prisons. You can find a one-pager for this policy idea below. This semester, we decided to host a summit to raise awareness on the issue of solitary confinement and draw public attention to it, in the hopes that it will pressure state lawmakers to take action.
As a team, we are so deeply invested in making this summit as valuable and impactful as possible, not just for our UofM community, but also for the state of Michigan as a whole and our families and friends on the inside. If you have questions or feedback about the summit, please email us!
